One of our programs is the EOM (Essential Oil of the Month) The "Essential
Oil of the Month" for January, 2012 is Frankincense. The
Use of Frankincense Resin in AromatherapyTh quintessential Holiday scent, Frankincese
is not an oil at all, but a resin. Frankincense is tapped from the Boswellia tree by slashing the bark
and allowing the exuded resins to bleed out and harden. These hardened resins are called tears. There are numerous species
and varieties of frankincense trees, each producing a slightly different type of resin. The resin is then steam-distilled
to produce Frankincense essential oil The Use of Frankincense
Oil in AromatherapyFrankincense is used in perfurmery and medicine. Frankincense resin is edible and
often used in various traditional medicines in Asia for digestion and healthy skin. Edible frankincense must be absolutely
pure for internal consumption, meaning it should be translucent, with no black or brown impurities. We do not recommend
ingesting Frankincense. It also has uses in treating arthritis, topically.
Aromatherapy Alliance
meetings consist of a brief organizational portion, an educational presentation and a networking event. We are a low-key,
friendly group of women AND men who meet 2-4 times per year to educate each other about clinical aromatherapy and its
applications.
